Karnataka Lokayukta Seizes Gold, Cash in Statewide Raids on Officials

Allegations of disproportionate assets prompted a probe of eight officers from BBMP, municipal bodies, state departments

Overview

  • The Karnataka Lokayukta conducted simultaneous searches on June 24 at residences and offices in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Anekal, Gadag, Dharwad, Kalaburagi and Belagavi
  • Targets included Prakash of BBMP, Dr. S Pradeep of the Organic Farming Department, Latha Mani and K.G. Amarnath of town municipalities, plus four other officers under suspicion
  • Investigators recovered gold and diamond jewellery, luxury items, incriminating documents and about ₹1.5 lakh in cash from Chief Engineer Ashok Valsand’s Belagavi home
  • The operation follows May and April raids that netted unaccounted cash, valuables and assets worth over ₹8 crore from other government officers
  • Lokayukta teams are reviewing seized materials and expanding inquiries into alleged financial irregularities across multiple departments
