Karnataka Lokayukta Says Raids on Minister’s Aide Unearth Rs 14.38 Crore as Crackdown Widens

The searches mark the latest phase of a disproportionate-assets investigation by the state watchdog.

  • Lokayukta teams searched 13 locations linked to Sardar Sarfaraz Khan, personal secretary to Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, recovering assets valued at about Rs 14.38 crore.
  • Officers reported documents for four houses and 37 acres of agricultural land, nearly Rs 3 crore in gold jewellery, high-end vehicles worth Rs 1.64 crore, bank deposits of Rs 1.29 crore and Rs 66,500 in cash.
  • A day earlier, coordinated raids at more than 17 sites across Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Karwar and Raichur uncovered disproportionate assets worth roughly Rs 19.2 crore tied to four government officers.
  • Those searches targeted Shamasundar Maruthi Kamble, Mallappa Hanamanthappa Yarazari, Maruthi Yashwanth Malvi and D Vijayalakshmi, with findings including about 93 acres of land, jewellery worth Rs 1.37 crore, Rs 19.05 lakh in cash and vehicles valued at Rs 1.01 crore.
  • The Lokayukta also trapped and arrested Bengaluru ACP Krishnamurthy after an alleged Rs 30,000 bribe handover following a complaint that he sought a monthly payment of Rs 32,000 from a hotel owner.
