Karnataka Launches Effort to Evacuate 120 NRIs Stranded by Iran Conflict

Supported by the Ministry of External Affairs the NRI Forum has relocated over 5,000 people to secure zones, planning transit through Turkmenistan for those still in Iran.

Overview

  • Around 120 people from Karnataka, including 60 to 70 medical and religious students and pilgrims from towns such as Gauribidanur, T Narasipura, Mysuru and Bengaluru, remain in Tehran and surrounding areas.
  • The NRI Forum of Karnataka has formally written to the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies in Iran and Israel urging immediate relocation to safer locations and repatriation.
  • More than 5,000 NRIs have already been moved to nearby safe zones under coordination between the state forum and federal authorities.
  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy have held direct calls with stranded Kannadigas and assured continuous government support.
  • Contingency plans include routing remaining evacuees through neighbouring countries such as Turkmenistan if security conditions worsen in Iran.
