Overview

• The explosion occurred Monday night in a passage near the washroom of a house in Alur taluk, Hassan district, injuring Sudarshan (32) and Kavya (28) who later died after transfer to Bengaluru.
• Police say preliminary examination found materials used for making firecrackers at the site, while detailed forensic reports are awaited to confirm the cause.
• Mohan Kumar, the homeowner and father of Sudarshan, filed the FIR and told police a cylinder or carpentry work might have triggered the blast.
• FSL and scene-of-crime officers, along with a specialist team from Bengaluru, are collecting chemical, metal and other samples from the location.
• The blast damaged the house and was heard kilometres away, while a child in the family received only minor injuries.
