Karnataka High Court Restores KSCA Polls, Sets December 7 Vote Under Judicial Oversight

The ruling ends uncertainty caused by disputes over a nine-year clause by reinstating elections under the existing by-laws with court supervision.

Overview

  • Justice Suraj Govindaraj quashed the Electoral Officer’s November 17 letter that had pushed the KSCA managing-committee polls from November 30 to December 30.
  • The court directed the Electoral Officer to conduct the election strictly under the existing by-laws and not be swayed by alternative interpretations.
  • A revised timeline was issued: nomination scrutiny on November 24 (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), valid list by 6 p.m. that day, withdrawals by 3 p.m. on November 26, final list by 5 p.m., and polling on December 7 (11 a.m.–7 p.m.) with results to follow.
  • Retired Karnataka High Court judge Subhash B. Adi was asked to supervise the process to ensure a fair, open and transparent election.
  • The court allowed petitions by the KSCA and committee member B. K. Ravi, as candidates and groups including Team Game Changers, Vinay Mruthyunjaya and K. N. Shanth Kumar welcomed the order and said it clarified eligibility.
