Karnataka High Court Orders State to Scrap Stalled BengaluruMysuru Corridor Project

The bench cited decades of non-delivery, noting just one kilometre built with no satellite townships.

Overview

  • A Division Bench of Justices D. K. Singh and Venkatesh Naik T. issued the directive in a January 9 order dismissing a 2010 land compensation plea.
  • The court recorded that only 1 km of the planned 111‑km expressway exists and that none of the five townships conceived in 1995 was developed.
  • Judges said project proponents NICE and NECEL built peripheral roads and toll plazas, collect tolls, and hold a large land bank without delivering the expressway.
  • The order noted more than 2,000 related cases that have burdened the High Court and other courts.
  • The State was told to discard the 1997 framework agreement and take fresh planning decisions to decongest Bengaluru, with an informed decision urged at the earliest.
