Karnataka HC Lifts Stay on Dharmasthala SIT Probe, Extends No-Harassment Order

The order follows state submissions that magistrate approval existed for the investigation.

Overview

  • Justice Mohammed Nawaz vacated the October 30 stay, clearing the SIT to continue examining the Dharmasthala mass-burial allegations.
  • The court kept its interim direction that the four petitioner-activists not be harassed during summons or questioning.
  • The SIT told the court it has serious, corroborated allegations supported by fieldwork, witness accounts and digital-forensic material, and it issued notices under BNSS Section 35(3).
  • The activists seek to quash the FIR, and their counsel says they received nine notices and faced 100–150 hours of interrogation, with summons sent via WhatsApp and email.
  • The probe began with claims by former sanitation worker C. N. Chinnaiah, who has since been arrested and named an accused for allegedly providing false information, as investigators also conducted excavations in Dharmasthala.
