Karnataka Halts Chinnaswamy Matches Over Safety Lapses With Vijay Hazare Relocated

The government will consider fresh requests only after verified compliance with the Justice Cunha panel’s safety recommendations.

Overview

  • Home Minister G. Parameshwara said KSCA was denied permission to host matches at Chinnaswamy for failing to meet safety and security requirements.
  • A committee led by GBA commissioner Maheshwar Rao inspected the venue on Monday and reported that none of the prescribed measures had been implemented.
  • Vijay Hazare Trophy fixtures were shifted to the BCCI Centre of Excellence near Kempegowda International Airport after a request to play without spectators was rejected.
  • The Justice John Michael Cunha commission, set up after the June 4 stampede that killed 11, found the stadium’s design unsafe and issued about 17 fixes covering gates, queuing zones, evacuation plans and parking.
  • Officials said approvals may follow once measures are in place and verified, while KSCA stated it is pursuing compliance to regain use of the stadium.
