Karnataka Extends Social and Educational Survey to Oct. 31, Drops Teachers From Enumeration

The move targets lagging participation in Bengaluru caused by apartment access curbs, UHID irregularities and technical glitches.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced the new Oct. 31 deadline, said teachers will no longer be used, and urged residents to complete remaining entries online.
  • Official data show 87.32% coverage statewide (1.42 crore of 1.48 crore households), while the Greater Bengaluru Authority area stands at 39.76%.
  • Shivakumar said most districts are near 90% completion and cited Bengaluru city at 67% participation with about 20% non-disclosure.
  • Officials attribute Bengaluru’s lag to restricted entry for enumerators at apartment complexes, misinformation, and UHID assignment anomalies that inflate household counts.
  • Teachers were told to continue fieldwork through the evening of Oct. 19 before being relieved; the survey uses a 60-question form and is estimated to cost about Rs 420 crore.
