Karnataka Ends Caste Survey Fieldwork, Opens Online Window Through Nov. 10

The Backward Classes Commission will now scrub the dataset and prepare caste-classification recommendations by December.

Overview

  • Door-to-door enumeration concluded on Friday after two deadline extensions from the original October 7 cutoff to October 31.
  • The Commission reports 6,13,83,908 people covered against a projected population of 6,85,38,000, indicating roughly 90% statewide coverage.
  • Progress in Bengaluru’s GBA area remained low at roughly 42–48%, with duplicate UHIDs, multiple meter links and closed listings inflating local reports to above 100% despite far fewer completed questionnaires.
  • Recorded participation gaps include 4,22,258 refusals and 34,49,681 vacant or locked houses, and the Commission says it will consult secondary datasets to analyse those who abstained.
  • Residents who missed visits can self-declare details at https://kscbcselfdeclaration.karnataka.gov.in or via helpline 80507 70004 until November 10, ahead of the Commission’s December recommendations that can reclassify castes across categories.
