Overview

  • The government on August 26 notified a 75-member Greater Bengaluru Authority chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, with D. K. Shivakumar as vice-chairman.
  • BBMP chief M. Maheshwar Rao has been appointed Chief Commissioner of the GBA with immediate effect.
  • From September 2, the BBMP will be replaced by five corporations with temporary headquarters at Hudson Circle, Yelahanka, Mahadevapura, RR Nagar, and Jayanagar.
  • A delimitation commission will be set up on September 3 to redraw ward boundaries, with the exercise targeted for completion by November 1 as stated to the Supreme Court.
  • Following legal challenges, the law was amended to limit the GBA to coordination functions, while the notified setup lacks a dedicated finance post and omits some project bodies such as K-RIDE and B-SMILE from representation.
