Karnataka Confirms Stadium on KSIC Factory Land as Opposition Cites GI Risk

State officials say the factory will remain open despite a report warning the land carve-out could endanger Mysore Silk’s certification.

Overview

  • MLC Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah said the Revenue Department has transferred 5.08 acres to the Sports Department and confirmed the stadium will be built at the KSIC T. Narasipura site.
  • Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka released KSIC’s December 24 technical report and urged the government to withdraw the decision, alleging a threat to Mysore Silk’s GI status.
  • KSIC’s report says boundary stones laid on Feb. 20 have already blocked access to the half-acre coal yard, even as the factory’s boilers consume 4.5–5 tonnes of coal daily.
  • The report warns stadium work could sever an underground brass pipeline that brings water from the Kapila river, jeopardising uninterrupted supply needed for yarn quality.
  • KSIC cites KSPCB requirements for an Effluent Treatment Plant and a 33% green zone to retain the GI tag, as local activists and employees press for the stadium to be relocated.
