Overview
- An expert committee reviewed 24 sudden deaths in Hassan district from May to June and found no spike in cardiac fatalities compared with previous months
- Of the 24 cases, four were attributed to non-cardiac causes and the remaining 20 were classified as 10 confirmed and 10 probable cardiac deaths
- Investigation revealed that over 75 percent of the deceased had at least one cardiovascular risk factor such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes or obesity
- The state will require mandatory post-mortems for all sudden out-of-hospital deaths to improve accuracy in cause-of-death determinations
- Plans include screening residents aged 15 and above in schools and workplaces, equipping primary health centres with ECG machines and emergency medicines, and expanding CPR training and AED availability
