Karnataka Commissions DPR to Extend Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Toward JiganiAttibele

Strong ridership since the August opening is driving a study of a southern link.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar told the Assembly the government is considering a southward extension in response to commuter requests.
  • Hyderabad-based R V Associates has been asked to prepare a Detailed Project Report for the proposal.
  • The study will examine adding roughly 11–12 km to reach Jigani, with a possible stretch toward Attibele.
  • Shivakumar cited a planned 90,000-seat Karnataka Housing Board stadium near Attibele as a key reason to improve connectivity.
  • The Yellow Line opened this month between R V Road and Bommasandra as a 19.15 km corridor with three trains running every 25 minutes and end-to-end travel of about 32–35 minutes.
