Overview
- Karnataka's Cabinet, which approved the plan Friday, set the 15% Scheduled Caste quota at 5.25% for left-hand groups, 5.25% for right-hand groups, and 4.5% for other SCs including nomadic communities.
- The government said recruitment notices will go out at once to fill 56,432 vacancies under the new split.
- Earlier notifications based on the scrapped 6-6-5 formula will be withdrawn and a revised roster will apply that also reserves one in five Group C posts for 59 nomadic castes.
- The plan keeps SC at 15% and ST at 3% to stay within the 50% ceiling, and an additional 6% will be treated as backlog until the courts give a final decision.
- BJP leaders condemned the move as dilution and cited the prior push for a 17% SC quota, while the state pointed to commission findings and a technical panel that had proposed a roughly 5.3-5.3-4.4 split.
