Karnataka Clears Hebbal–Mehkri Tunnel and Elevated Corridor at ₹2,215 Crore

The package targets local bottlenecks through a short cut-and-cover link, triggering a redesign of the separate Hebbal–Silk Board tunnel plan.

Overview

  • The Cabinet approved a three-lane twin tunnel from Hebbal Junction to KVAFSU over 2.27 km, plus an elevated corridor from KVAFSU to Mehkri Circle.
  • Law Minister H. K. Patil said the project will use a cut-and-cover construction model proposed by the Urban Development Department.
  • Project documents indicate the Bangalore Development Authority will execute the work and meet the cost from its own resources.
  • Officials said the decision requires shifting planned ramps and other adjustments in the ongoing Hebbal–Silk Board twin-tunnel scheme.
  • Traffic police backed the short tunnel to accommodate two-wheelers and autorickshaws for nearby areas, and Mehkri Circle is set to be reworked as a rotary interchange.
