Karnataka Approves 6–6–5 Internal SC Quota, CM Details Rollout

The plan compresses a five-group proposal into three blocks to resolve a long-running allocation dispute.

Overview

  • Under the new matrix, Dalit Left (Madiga) and Dalit Right (Holeya) each get 6% of the 17% SC quota, with 5% for touchable groups and 59 microscopic communities.
  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said an ordinance will follow the Monsoon session, recruitments will start once the order is issued, and a one-time age relaxation will apply.
  • The cabinet accepted the Nagamohan Das panel’s findings with changes, merging nomadic groups with touchable communities and distributing Adi Karnataka, Adi Andhra and Adi Dravida equally between Left and Right.
  • A permanent Scheduled Castes Commission will be constituted, and cases filed against internal reservation activists will be withdrawn, the government announced.
  • Several marginalised and nomadic SC groups criticised the consolidation, and opposition BJP leaders said the decision departs from the commission’s five-category plan; Karnataka becomes the fourth state to implement such sub-classification after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
