Karnataka Approves 117-km Bengaluru Business Corridor, Sets Two-Year Target

A land-for-development compensation plan aims to speed land acquisition.

Overview

  • The Cabinet cleared a tolled ring-style corridor linking Electronic City with Tumakuru and Mysuru roads, with the Bengaluru Development Authority designated to execute the project.
  • Land losers can choose developed commercial land along a 35-metre strip, transferable development rights, additional floor area ratio, residential plots in BDA layouts, or cash.
  • Those losing under 20 guntas are eligible only for cash, set at twice the guidance value in urban stretches and three times in rural stretches.
  • The design uses 65 metres for the roadway with service lanes and reserves a 5-metre centre for a future metro line, and construction will proceed in two stretches.
  • HUDCO will lend to the project; officials forecast completion in two years and claim up to a 40% traffic reduction, while revised cost estimates vary between ₹10,000 crore and ₹17,000 crore from an earlier ₹27,000 crore, with about 1,900 families affected.
