Karnataka Announces KEO, a Low-Cost AI-Ready PC Built on Open RISC-V

The project targets digital inclusion with an offline-capable AI tutor aligned to the state curriculum for learners without reliable internet.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil KEO at the Bengaluru Tech Summit on November 18, with public demonstrations and pricing details to follow at the event.
  • Developed by the Department of Electronics, IT & BT with KEONICS and local startups, the compact micro-PC was designed and assembled in Karnataka.
  • KEO runs a Linux-based OS on an open-source RISC-V processor and includes 4G, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB-A/USB-C, HDMI and audio ports.
  • An on-device AI core enables local AI use without internet access, and the system ships with BUDDH, an assistant trained on the DSERT syllabus.
  • Officials outlined deployment across schools, universities, small enterprises, government offices and homes, citing low household computer ownership and high student exclusion from online learning.
