Karnataka Adds 422 PG Medical Seats for 2025–26 After NMC Approval

The expansion lifts government PG capacity to 2,116 seats this year.

  • The National Medical Commission approved 422 of the 572 postgraduate seats requested by the state for the 2025–26 academic year.
  • Government college PG intake rises to 2,116 from 1,694 last year, leaving 150 requested seats still not cleared.
  • New postgraduate slots span more than 20 departments across pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines, including pediatrics and anaesthesiology.
  • Separately, the regulator cleared an increase of 450 undergraduate medical seats in Karnataka’s government colleges.
  • For the first time, 15% of seats in government medical colleges will be reserved for Non-Resident Indians.
