Karlsruhe Zoo Shares First Photos of Rare Polar Bear Cub

The Karlsruhe Zoo has released the first photos and video of a polar bear cub born in early November 2024 to seven-year-old Nuka, her first offspring.
One of two cubs born in the litter did not survive, but the remaining cub is reportedly healthy and developing well.
Zoo staff are taking precautions to protect the cub and its mother, keeping the enclosure closed to visitors and minimizing human contact until the cub is older.
The cub's gender is still unknown, with a veterinary examination planned in the coming weeks, after which it will receive a name.
The zoo is using the birth to raise awareness about the threats polar bears face in the wild, including climate change and habitat loss, as the species remains classified as 'vulnerable' by conservation groups.
