Karl-May Museum Breaks Ground on New Reception Building

Funded by federal, Saxony, Radebeul authorities, the 6.5 million euro project will deliver a special exhibition room with expanded depot capacity over the next two years.

Overview

  • The project broke ground on June 14, 2025, marking the first physical work on the reception building at the Karl-May Museum in Radebeul.
  • Structural work is set to begin on July 7 and is planned to conclude after a two-year construction period.
  • The expansion will create a dedicated special exhibition room and enlarge the existing depot to accommodate the growing collection.
  • Financing is provided by federal (2.7 million euros), Saxony (2.7 million euros) and the city of Radebeul (1 million euros) authorities.
  • Since its 1928 opening across Villa Shatterhand and Villa Bärenfett, the museum has preserved around 4,000 exhibits with some 800 on display.
