Overview
- Bushby began the journey on foot from southern Chile in 1998 and kept to two personal rules: no transport and no return home until the walk was finished.
- He covered roughly 29 countries and an estimated 50,000 kilometres while facing extreme terrain such as the Darién Gap and the Bering Strait.
- The project was repeatedly paused by visa refusals from Russia, the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID‑19 pandemic, interruptions that together accounted for many years of the trip.
- A film producer backed the effort for about 16 years and filmmaker Werner Herzog and a crew accompanied Bushby on the final stage as a documentary titled Walk of Life was recorded.
- After a civic reception in Hull, Bushby will make a short final walk to his mother’s house to reunite with his son and a 12‑year‑old granddaughter he has not yet met.
