Karen Read Seeks Dismissal of Murder Charges in Police Officer Boyfriend's Death

Karen Read's attorney has petitioned the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to dismiss charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident.
Read is accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him to die in a snowstorm in January 2022.
The defense claims Read was framed and that O'Keefe was killed inside a fellow officer's home before being placed outside.
A mistrial was declared last summer after jurors were deadlocked, but Read's lawyers argue that five jurors had agreed she was not guilty on the murder charges.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office has until October 16 to respond, and a new trial is scheduled for January.
