• Ararat Rural City Council's settlement program aims to help Karen migrants fill job shortages in manufacturing, meat processing, childcare, agriculture, and IT sectors.
• The Karen people are a large ethnic minority in Myanmar who have been persecuted by the military junta.
• The settlement program has filled 17 jobs over 18 months, with 28 participants still in Ararat since it began.
• Ararat Meat Exports managing director Michael Stapleton employs six people from the Karen community and is happy with the result.
