Karachi's 38-Day World Culture Festival Opens, Showcasing Global Delegations and Local Talent

Organisers frame the event as cultural diplomacy to project a softer image of Sindh and Karachi.

Overview

  • The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in partnership with the Government of Sindh, is staging the festival from October 31 to December 7 across music, theatre, dance, visual arts and film.
  • International delegations have begun arriving, including artists from Kosovo, Sweden, Argentina, Bangladesh and the Street Dancers Congo, with participation expected from roughly 18–20 countries.
  • Hosting protocols are in place from airport reception through venue coordination, and the Sindh Police have deployed an elaborate security plan for visiting guests.
  • A weekly two-hour film slot is confirmed, with Sarmad Khoosat’s Kamli and Sohel Rana Boyati’s Noya Manush scheduled for November 29.
  • Festival ambassador Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform at the December 7 closing ceremony at the YMCA Lawn, and programming emphasizes inclusive representation of Sindh-based artists.
