Karachi Sets Oct. 27 Start for ‘Faceless’ E-Challan Traffic Enforcement

Police will use camera evidence to issue tickets to reduce direct stops.

Overview

  • IG Ghulam Nabi Memon said e-ticketing will roll out citywide after a formal launch by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on October 27.
  • Manual challans remain paused after the previous vendor’s 10-year contract expired, and no new agreement has been signed.
  • The Safe City Programme and traffic police are working on the technical setup for the relaunch, with current e-challans generated only as test notices that are not being sent to drivers.
  • A revised schedule under Section 121-A raises penalties, including overspeeding fines of Rs5,000 for motorcycles, Rs15,000 for cars, and Rs20,000 for heavy vehicles, and up to Rs50,000 plus six demerit points for driving without a licence.
  • Karachi Traffic Police warned of fake SMS e-challans and said official notices will not come from personal numbers or request EasyPaisa payments, and a committee has been formed to handle complaints.
