Karachi Sees Light Showers as Arabian Sea Low Weakens, Cyclone Risk Fades

PMD now expects the offshore system to dissipate, reducing the threat of tropical development near Karachi.

Overview

  • Pakistan Meteorological Department says the low over the northeastern Arabian Sea, about 440 km south of Karachi, is unlikely to become a cyclone and is likely to dissipate.
  • Light rain and drizzle are forecast for Karachi today with humid conditions and highs near 36°C after heavy showers earlier in the week.
  • Recorded rainfall in Karachi included 34 mm at Airport Old Area, 30 mm at Faisal Base and 27 mm in DHA, with additional totals across Sindh.
  • Fishermen in Sindh have been advised to avoid deep-sea ventures until October 3 due to rough seas and gusty winds.
  • PMD’s broader outlook calls for widespread rain, scattered heavy falls and hail across parts of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from October 2–7, while officials say there is no immediate coastal threat.
