Kantara: Chapter 1 Sees Strong Advance Sales as Chennai Promo Is Cancelled After Karur Tragedy

The Oct. 2 pan-India release remains on schedule with thousands of shows planned, and early bookings led by Karnataka outpacing other language markets.

Overview

  • Hombale Films called off a Chennai promotional event in a condolence move following the Karur rally stampede at Vijay’s event, where officials reported 41 deaths.
  • Early pre-sales have surged, with trackers citing 1.6–1.9 lakh tickets and roughly Rs 5.5–6.6 crore booked for day one, depending on the source and inclusion of blocked seats.
  • Trade listings show 6,195 day-one shows across India, including 1,317 in Kannada, 3,703 in Hindi, 247 in Tamil, 43 in Telugu and 885 in Malayalam.
  • Uptake is strongest in Karnataka, while Hindi advance is building more slowly, with about 15,000 tickets sold in top national chains and collections in the range of Rs 36–50 lakh reported by trackers.
  • Rishab Shetty highlighted his journey from working as an office boy and producer’s driver in Mumbai, as separate reports say he opted for profit-sharing over a fixed fee on the film.
