Kansas City Officer Released After Patrol SUV Rear-Ended During I-29 Traffic Stop
Police are investigating possible impairment of the Kia driver.
Overview
- The collision happened just after midnight Saturday on northbound I-29 near NW Waukomis in Kansas City’s Northland.
- A KCPD Dodge Durango was parked on the left shoulder with red and blue emergency lights activated while an officer assisted a traffic stop.
- Investigators say a blue Kia Forte traveling at a high rate of speed struck the rear of the parked patrol vehicle.
- Both the officer and the Kia driver were hospitalized with serious injuries; the officer has been released and is recovering, and the Kia driver remains in serious condition.
- KCPD has not released the officer’s identity and is seeking tips through Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers.
