The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has declared the Balcony C stand at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur 'unfit' and 'dangerous' for the upcoming India vs Bangladesh Test match.
Only 1,700 tickets will be sold for the stand, which has a capacity of 4,800, to mitigate the risk of collapse during the event.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) is racing to complete necessary repairs, but the stand will not be fully operational in time for the match.
In addition to structural issues with the stand, the stadium's floodlights are also problematic, with eight bulbs near the VIP pavilion not functioning properly.
The Green Park Stadium has a history of visibility issues during matches, exacerbated by pollution, which previously affected the outcome of a Test match against New Zealand.
