The dispute originated from Ranaut's 2020 interview where she accused Akhtar of intimidation, which he claimed was defamatory.
Ranaut issued an apology, acknowledging a misunderstanding and agreeing not to repeat her statements in the future.
Akhtar, in turn, decided to withdraw his case after considering Ranaut's statement and apology.
The resolution included mediation, during which Akhtar agreed to write songs for Ranaut's next directorial project.
