Trumka Jr. later clarified that the regulations would only apply to new products, and both he and the chairman of the CPSC stated they were not looking to ban gas stoves.
The Department of Energy proposed an 'energy efficiency standard' for gas cooking products in February, which was met with criticism and claims that it would lead to a ban on gas stoves.
The White House has stated that President Biden does not support a ban on gas stoves.
