  • On July 25 in New Delhi, Kamal Haasan took his oath as a Rajya Sabha member in Tamil, earning enthusiastic desk thumps from fellow parliamentarians.
  • He was elected unopposed on June 12 after Makkal Needhi Maiam allied with the DMK-led INDIA bloc under a 2024 seat-sharing agreement that secured him a Rajya Sabha nomination.
  • During the ceremony, Haasan vowed to fulfil his duty with honour, uphold the Constitution and serve as a voice for Tamil Nadu in the Upper House.
  • Haasan founded MNM in 2018 on anti-corruption, rural development and environmental sustainability platforms and recalibrated his strategy through the DMK alliance to gain parliamentary entry.
