Overview
- Kamal Haasan filed his Rajya Sabha nomination on June 6 at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai, with Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in attendance.
- The DMK allocated one of its four Rajya Sabha seats to Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam in exchange for MNM’s campaign support during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
- The INDIA bloc controls 158 of the 234 assembly seats, far exceeding the 34 votes required per candidate to clinch four Rajya Sabha spots.
- DMK’s three other nominees for the June 19 election are senior advocate P. Wilson, award-winning Tamil writer-poet Salma (Rokiah Malik) and former legislator S. R. Sivalingam.
- All six candidates—four from the INDIA bloc and two from the AIADMK—are expected to be elected unopposed given the current composition of the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
