Overview
- Raaj Kamal Films International unveiled the title Sandiyar and released a first-look poster on Friday showing Kamal Haasan in a rugged avatar holding a handgun with a promotional line referencing revenge.
- The production confirmed that filming went on floors on Saturday, Haasan’s birthday, when the makers posted that shooting had begun.
- The announced creative team includes director S U Arun Kumar, composer Anirudh Ravichander, stunt duo Anbariv, cinematographer Sunil KS, production designer C S Balachander and costume designer Amritha Ram, with Haasan and R. Mahendran producing.
- Filmmaker Lenin Bharathi criticised the film’s revenge-themed messaging as glorifying violence and irresponsible given recent caste-related violence in parts of Tamil Nadu, and the makers have not issued a detailed public response.
- The title revives a name Haasan first chose for his 2003–04 project (later released as Virumaandi) that drew political objections, a history that commentators say could keep the film’s marketing and title choice under close public and political scrutiny.
