Overview

• Construction is underway at 411 W Kalamazoo Ave., marked by a Sept. 26 groundbreaking after months of site work.
• Greenleaf chairman Bill Johnston is leading and financing the project, with reported costs ranging from $300 million (WOODTV) to $515 million (MLive).
• The 430,000‑square‑foot complex will house WMU men’s and women’s basketball, WMU hockey and the Kalamazoo Wings, seating 6,500 for sports and up to 8,000 for concerts.
• Developers project roughly 225 events and about 700,000 attendees each year, with an estimated $52.6 million in direct economic impact and around 400 jobs.
• Planned amenities include two practice basketball courts, a practice ice sheet, a multipurpose floor, four premium hospitality areas, and an adjacent garage with more than 1,000 spaces and 12 EV chargers.
