  • The first batch of 33 pilgrims was flagged off by Governor Om Prakash Mathur at the Nathula Pass on June 20
  • The pilgrimage is jointly managed by the Ministry of External Affairs, Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to ensure coordinated support
  • Pilgrims underwent medical screenings and acclimatisation at 18th Mile and Sherathang before crossing into the Tibetan Autonomous Region, where they were received by Chinese officials
  • Troop disengagement agreements signed in October 2024 paved the way for renewed India-China cooperation on the sacred route
  • A total of 750 pilgrims will travel this season via Sikkim’s Nathu La and Uttarakhand’s Lipulekh Pass, a move expected to boost Sikkim’s tourism sector
