Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes as First Pilgrims Arrive in Gangtok

They will move to a high-altitude acclimatization area before crossing into China on June 20 under a government-driven arrangement.

Thirty-six pilgrims landed at Bagdogra airport, reached Gangtok by road and moved to the 17 Mile area for acclimatization Monday.
The group includes two Ministry of External Affairs officials and is the first of ten batches totaling 500 via Nathu La, with 250 more set to depart through Lipulekh Pass.
Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation will manage the yatra from Gangtok to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar as a government-to-government initiative.
Pilgrims will traverse Nathu La pass and Tibet’s Shigatse before aiming for Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
The June 20 border crossing reflects recent diplomatic efforts and troop disengagement agreements between India and China.
