Overview
- Governor Om Prakash Mathur flagged off the first batch at Nathula Pass on June 20, escorted by two ITBP liaison officers and a medical officer.
- Officials say 750 pilgrims will undertake the yatra until August, with 500 in 10 batches via Nathula Pass and 250 in five groups via Uttarakhand’s Lipulekh route.
- The pilgrims completed stringent health checks and a two-stage high-altitude acclimatisation process at the 18th Mile and Sherathang camps before departure.
- After crossing into the Tibetan Autonomous Region, yatris will travel through Yatung, Shigatse, Saga and Darchen en route to the Mount Kailash base camp.
- Organisers expect the revived pilgrimage to boost spiritual tourism in Sikkim and reinforce India-China cooperation throughout its August conclusion.
