Overview
- NPCIL has completed excavation at the Kaiga site and plans to start concrete pouring for Units 5 & 6 by November.
- Units 5 and 6 will each be 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactors built under NPCIL’s fleet-mode strategy for a combined 1,400 MW.
- NPCIL is following National Green Tribunal directives and is awaiting environmental clearance before advancing major construction.
- The ₹21,000 crore project is funded over five years using 54.09 hectares of existing site land, avoiding fresh acquisition.
- Half of the power from the new units is earmarked for Karnataka and NPCIL has initiated local workforce coaching to support staffing needs.
