  • Since June 21 the Japan Meteorological Agency has recorded 2,177 tremors of intensity 1 or higher beneath the Tokara Islands.
  • On July 18 two undersea quakes of magnitude 3.1–3.3 and intensity 3 struck near Akusekijima at depths around 20 kilometers.
