K-RIDE Moves to Re-Tender Bengaluru Suburban Rail Corridor-2 in Three Packages

Contracts are targeted for award by December, with Corridor-4 bids expected in November to keep work moving.

Overview

  • K-RIDE's board, chaired by the Karnataka Chief Secretary, authorized the managing director to initiate fresh tenders following the Advocate General’s advice.
  • The remaining civil works on Corridor-2 (Benniganahalli–Chikkabanavara) will be split into three packages, with awards planned by December.
  • Tenders for Corridor-4 (Heelalige–Rajanukunte) are slated to be floated in November after earlier contracts stalled.
  • Larsen & Toubro halted work in March and saw its Corridor-2 contract terminated in August for non-compliance, including failure to furnish required performance security and a bank guarantee, while the company has claimed losses due to land delays.
  • Arbitration between K-RIDE and L&T is underway before a three-member panel of retired judges, and K-RIDE is contesting a commercial court stay on encashing L&T’s bank guarantee.
