K. Kavitha Quits BRS, Resigns MLC Seat After Suspension Over Kaleshwaram Row

Her exit follows a state-ordered CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project based on a commission report that cited irregularities under the previous BRS government.

Overview

  • A day after her suspension, Kavitha announced she was leaving the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and vacating her legislative council seat, calling the action against her a conspiracy.
  • She publicly named cousins T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh as responsible for corruption linked to the Kaleshwaram project and alleged they colluded with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to damage KCR.
  • The BRS said her statements and behaviour amounted to anti-party activities, and party workers removed her images from offices, with some burning her portraits in parts of Telangana.
  • Telangana’s Congress government has referred the Kaleshwaram case to the CBI after the PC Ghose Commission reported procedural and financial irregularities and held KCR directly and vicariously accountable.
  • Kavitha said she will not join another party for now and will consult supporters from Telangana Jagruthi on next steps, as Revanth Reddy rejected her allegations and BRS leaders defended the suspension.
