Overview
- On September 2, the BRS suspended MLC K. Kavitha for "anti-party activities" in a decision taken by party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao.
- She announced her resignation on September 3 and, in remarks reported by media, warned brother K. T. Rama Rao against cousins she says are working to break the family.
- Kavitha has publicly alleged that cousins T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh, along with contractor Megha Krishna Reddy, were responsible for irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project and for making KCR a scapegoat.
- The Congress-led Telangana government has referred the Kaleshwaram case to the CBI after the Justice P. C. Ghose Commission found KCR directly and vicariously accountable for lapses at the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages.
- Following the suspension, BRS workers removed her images from party offices and burned her portraits in some districts, while party leaders defended the action and some accused the Congress of sowing discord.
