Justice Vikram Nath Says Stray-Dog Case Made Him Globally Known

The judge’s comments follow his bench’s August 22 order that shifted Delhi-NCR stray-dog management to sterilise-and-return under ABC rules.

Overview

  • Speaking at a NALSA–KeLSA conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Justice Vikram Nath quipped that the case brought him recognition worldwide and thanked CJI BR Gavai for assigning it.
  • He said he has received messages from dog lovers and joked that even dogs sent blessings.
  • On August 22, the three-judge bench led by Justice Nath modified the August 11 directive by ordering sterilisation, deworming and vaccination with release to original areas, except for rabid or aggressive dogs.
  • The modified order restricted feeding in public places to designated zones and directed municipalities to create such spaces in every ward.
  • The bench issued notices to all states and Union Territories, transferred related High Court matters to the Supreme Court, and indicated it will work toward a national policy on stray dogs.
