- Justice Vibhu Bakhru took the oath of office as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on July 19 at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.
- Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath during a ceremony attended by state and judicial dignitaries, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti.
- As Chief Justice, he will preside over the principal bench in Bengaluru and oversee the administration of justice throughout Karnataka.
- The appointment follows the Supreme Court Collegium’s May 26 recommendation and the government’s July 14 announcement of five new high court chief justices.
- Bakhru’s legal career includes designation as a senior advocate in 2011, appointment as a Delhi High Court judge in 2013 and service as Acting Chief Justice there from December 2024 to January 2025.
