Overview

  • The DOJ filed suit on June 25 against Robert Page for refusing to provide unredacted non-citizen removal records from January 2020 onward under the Help America Vote Act.
  • Orange County had redacted sensitive data including driver’s license and state ID numbers, Social Security numbers, language preferences and signature images in its response to the department’s request.
  • The lawsuit was triggered by a complaint that a non-citizen in Orange County received an unsolicited mail ballot from the registrar.
  • Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Michael Gates and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli are leading the case for the Justice Department.
  • The department contends that withholding full voter removal records violates federal election laws and undermines public confidence in election integrity.
