The Justice Department is asking a federal judge to block former President Donald Trump from being deposed in a lawsuit filed by former FBI agent Peter Strzok.
Strzok claims his First Amendment rights were violated when he was fired over private text messages reflecting anti-Trump sentiments.
The judge ruled that Strzok couldn't depose Trump without deposing FBI director Christopher Wray first.
The motion filed by the Justice Department suggests that Wray's deposition rendered Trump's deposition moot.
Other senior-level government officials, including Trump's former chief of staff John Kelly, have provided sworn testimony in the case.
