Overview

  • On July 10 the Civil Rights Division opened a formal Title VII probe into Minnesota’s Department of Human Services hiring rule.
  • The policy obliges supervisors to interview underrepresented candidates and document objective reasons when selecting applicants outside those groups.
  • Managers who skip the documentation process risk disciplinary measures up to termination under the DHS directive.
  • Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon said the inquiry will assess whether the state engaged in race- and sex-based employment discrimination.
  • The investigation follows recent DOJ reviews of diversity initiatives at universities and agencies as part of a broader effort to challenge DEI and affirmative action practices.
